How we plan to build a Billion Dollar Company!

We all need life’s little pleasures to relax and escape to a different world. As an entrepreneur (I’m confident I speak for all of us out there) finding chill out time is an important part of keeping fresh and sane so we are energized to deal with our passion and challenges in business and life.

I’m 21 days into my new year’s resolution which included, for those of you who don’t know, building a billion dollar Internet marketing company and losing 25lbs of weight. I’m 4lbs lighter and a little, little closer to my billion dollar company with the launch of Radio2Video.Com. This is one of ten Internet marketing concepts we will launch this year.

With a number of unexpected challenges this year which includes a death in a team member’s family who was also a client, my operations director resigns unexpectedly -I’m feeling a little overwhelmed, tired, and very emotional so finding time to escape is important.

Here are my top ten things I do to relax;

Cricket - A sport I am crazy about. I’m currently the B team captain of Cosmos Cricket Club in Winnipeg. I was an all rounder but seem to have lost my confidence to bowl in the past few years. I’m focused on creating a winning team and getting a promotion in 2012. Yes get back to taking a few wickets…
Sunday Times - Thanks to Steve Jobs I don’t need to spend $20.00 every week to buy a week old Sunday Times in a seedy magazine shop in Winnipeg. Now every Sunday I simply download my Sunday Times on my iPad and jump to the business section and read every page.
Family Time - I don’t do enough of it, with four kids and a beautiful wife I’m spoilt with so much love and support. I enjoy those moments when it’s been a tough day at the office and my kids come running for that unconditional hug or when Nina just gives me a hug and I feel totally at peace.
BBC iPlayer - Yes I’m British and I love the BBC shows especially the Crime & Thriller genre. I can watch 5 shows when I can’t sleep which is at least once a week.
Boot Camp - Three times a week I visit the Wellness Institute with Alex, Tim and Ashley who help me stay healthy.
Audio Books - NOT FICTIONAL - most of my educational learning in the past ten years have been through books from authors like Jim Collins, Dale Carnegie, Seth Godin and Napoleon Hill. Dozens of biographies and auto-biographies from leaders in business, politics and religion.
Research on my iPad - You can only learn about the Internet by living in it and trying out sites and different software tools. A minimum of 20 hours a week I spend learning about the Internet and this is outside my working hours.
Hot Tub - Relaxing with friends and family in the hot tub weekly.
Party - Yes I love to host parties. We make the most of special occasions and even, if I say so myself, we host a darn good party.
Holiday - A good old vacation on the beach doing nothing but being a beach bum, reading books, nice food, great drinks and family time.

It’s Sunday so guess what - I’m off to read my Sunday Times which has just finished downloading….

You need my three BIG ones in every business. Find a way to measure them collectively daily.

Life & Death

Spent the day feeling numb after receiving some shocking news of a good friend and colleague’s very close family member passing away. He was also a recent client who had major plans for 2012 and we had only exchanged emails a few days back.

My thoughts and condolences are with the family. Gary, we are thinking of you.

To everybody reading this please make the most of everyday and treat it as your last day on earth because there is only a fine line between life and death.

I weighed myself and shared it with you.

Day One - Healthy Profits

No big surprises today. But a good day that as a team we took the time to prepare for the year ahead. I personally didn’t feel my best and that’s partly due to an unhealthy festive period, not that I regret a single moment of the good food and drinks that I consumed over the past ten days.

But that brings me to my title today - Healthy Profits. Being healthy is so important to any successful outcome as a leader of a team or company. This doesn’t mean we all have to have six packs and do marathons but we need a way to release and reduce stress levels so of course doing some sort of exercise and healthy eating helps.

So in order to make sure I am feeling good and eating healthy to deal with the year ahead, I will be doing regular exercise sessions with Ashley who is a personal trainer at The Wellness Institute in Winnipeg. I’ll take a photo of me on scales tomorrow morning so you can see my start point in terms of current weight and over the coming months I will reveal my progress.

What are you doing to stay healthy?

How will you make sure you sustain your goals and not throw in the towel before the month is out?

Finally, do you think being healthy has an impact on your personal and/or business goals?

Bye for now….
